Perpetual Painting Project

Video of Perpetual Painting Project and Concept.

The Perpetual Painting began in 2009 with a painting I did of a house and its surroundings.  I was looking for a home at the time. The painting was completed, entitled “Finding Home”; it was signed and hung up on the wall.
As in life, one’s dreams and imagination aren’t assured an outcome,  and I was unsatisfied with the original painting.
It was at this point, that I realized I could continue to adapt the original canvas INDEFINITELY! I could paint on it forever if I wanted to.
As in our imagination, dreams are always changing – In the painting could document endlessly, ceaseless versions of a visual journey that bridges the present, past, and future in one containment.

The Perpetual Painting Display:
The painting is photo photographed periodically as the original painting will (and has) become indistinguishable with time. The painting is hung with a wall pedestal with its accompanying logbook. The logbook is adapted from the idea of Sea Captain’s vessel journeys. The book will contain the progression photos and log updates that document the life of the painting. Also, this was my first time-lapse of the painting. Technology has come a long way since 2009.

Passing on the painting:

Can you connect future generations with the past through the act of painting?
We’ll see! At some point, I will hand the painting down to my daughter (who is also an artist ) to hopefully continue the painting with her adaptations, interpretations,
and vision.
Only THEN it does become – The Perpetual Painting!
