Artist Statement
Margie Darrow
Visual Artist
I began my artistic career with illustration and graphic design. As I ventured into new mediums, I developed my signature style of acrylic paintings that evoke a sense of movement through shapes, depth, and light. This technique evolved into creating highly stylized, sculptural wood pieces, which have become my primary medium.
I’ve worked in both public and private art sectors, and I enjoy the research and development of new projects. I believe that art should be integrated into its environment, and this resonates with the viewer.
I have received recognition for my artwork through fellowships, grants, awards,
and commissions.
Through the joy of experimentation and numerous collaborations, I’ve expanded my art practice to encompass a wide range of mediums, including installation and display projects, collage, clay, glass, sculpture, assemblage, embroidery, video, and animation projects. My artwork is inspired by subjects such as nature, history, movement, and materials. My process involves an engaged and inquisitive response to the creation of my artwork.
Experimenting with new art-making processes keeps me engaged, open-minded, and eager to explore new creative directions and opportunities.
